Selling your home
With Solar

Selling a home with solar comes with unique opportunities and considerations. We’re here to make the process straightforward and hassle-free. With our easy 5-Step Guide, we’ll help you navigate the steps to successfully sell your solar-powered home with confidence and ease.

Step 1

Handling the Financials

If you purchased your system outright or your solar system is paid off, CONGRATULATIONS! Skip ahead to Step 2.

If you financed your system and you still owe on the loan, you will need to decide how you want to pass that on to the buyer. There are two ways to do this:

  1. If the market in your area supports it, you can wrap leftover costs into the selling price of the house, allowing you to pay off the loan after completing the sale.
  2. If the buyer’s credit qualifies, you can transfer the loan directly to them. Contact the loan company and they’ll be more than happy to help with this.

Check out our blog page that takes a deep dive into weighing the pros and cons of these two options.

Step 2

Transferring Ownership

After the sale, Klick will need proof of ownership and contact info from the buyer in order to help them if a warranty issue arises.

Simply have your listing broker contact us at 720-465-9073 or info@klicksolar.com to let us know of the sale, and we’ll work with them to coordinate the rest.

Step 3

Pass Along Info to the New Homeowner

After the sale, the buyer will need all documents important to your system. Make sure to leave copies of the following so we can help them if an issue ever arises:

  • Engineering Plans
  • Installation Agreement
  • Warranty information

If you’re missing copies of any of these documents, please contact us, and we’ll be more than happy to send them.

Step 4

Transfer the Monitoring App

To set the new homeowner up for success with their new system, you will need to transfer control of the monitoring app to the buyer. Please note that this will likely include a transfer fee which can be paid by you or the buyer.

Enphase

Instruct the new owner to visit Enphase’s Website to create an account and transfer ownership. Here’s the link.

Solar Edge

Fill out the “Request for Monitoring Site Transfer and New User Access” form on the SolarEdge website (link here). When asked to select the service from the list, select “Transfer PV system ownership to a new site owner”.

Step 5

Transferring Ownership with Your Electric Provider

Pacific Power

Call Pacific Power to let them know that you would like to stop your service and move the service over to the new owner with Solar.
Pacific Power will then send documentation to you (Former Homeowner) that will need to be signed.

When the new Homeowner calls Pacific Power to start service, they will sign their own documentation for their service to be started under their name.

Xcel Energy

The home buyer will need to submit an “Assignment of Contract” form in order to reap the benefits of their solar system on their electric bills. To do this, they will need a copy of your Net Metering Agreement and Solar Bank Election Form. These forms were emailed to you from Xcel Energy when the solar system was installed. If you don’t have them, reach out to Xcel’s Customer Support team to request a copy.
